Skeleton Riders (in enamel!)

Here are my new unit of ‘official’ GW model skellie riders. On the bones I tried a technique I rarely use  – washing. This is not easy with enamels as you have to thin with thinners, which can upset the layer of paint you are attempting to wash over. I have managed it with some success on previous skelliebobs, and these seem to have come out ok. I must admit, I always end up painting bones over the top, but the end result is a bit more subtle than my usual cartoon style.

Here they all are …

Here regimented into battle formation …

I used ten of the ‘new’ style riders and five of the new horses. As I had used the other five new horses for my hexwraiths, I rustled up five ‘old’ horses from my bits box to mount the remainder. It adds variety!

The commander gives you an idea of my attempt to make the armour a bit rusty, and characterful …

And this guy shows you how the old, unbarded horses worked quite well …

Just need to base them now.

  1. These guys look great and very menacing, charging in a line! I like the high contrast, knightly colour combination of green and red, but applied with muted, faded tones. Good idea using the original skeleton horses with barding, they blend in nicely yet provide variety.
